Some names describe a machine. Others give it mythology.

First revealed under the codename AM-RB 001, Aston Martin’s revolutionary hypercar demanded a name equal to its extraordinary ambition. Developed in collaboration with Red Bull Advanced Technologies, the Valkyrie represents the ultimate convergence of automotive design, advanced engineering and uncompromising performance—a machine conceived not merely to travel at speed, but to push beyond the accepted limits of the road car. Its name continues one of Aston Martin’s most enduring traditions. The marque’s lineage of celebrated ‘V’ cars began in 1951 with the Vantage, originally used to distinguish a higher-performance version of the DB2.

Producing 125bhp against the standard engine’s 105bhp, the designation immediately became synonymous with greater power, desirability and distinction. Initially reserved for Aston Martin’s most potent derivatives, Vantage eventually became a model line in its own right in 2005. It would be joined across the decades by Virage, Vanquish and the formidable Vulcan—names that evoke strength, speed and a certain aristocratic drama. With Valkyrie, this lyrical lineage enters an altogether more mythical realm. Drawn from ancient Norse mythology,

the Valkyries were powerful female figures who selected the worthiest warriors from the battlefield and carried them to Valhalla. The name carries connotations of honour, destiny and being chosen by the gods—an appropriately evocative identity for a car destined to be experienced by only a fortunate few.

For Aston Martin Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman, the name reflects both the car’s rarity and its refusal to compromise. “Aston Martin model names have deep meaning. They need to inspire and excite, to tell a story and enrich a narrative,” Reichman explains. “The Aston Martin Valkyrie is an incredibly special car that demands an equally remarkable name—an uncompromising car that leaves nothing in reserve.” While its identity may be rooted in antiquity, the Valkyrie itself is an expression of the future. Its sculptural body has been shaped by airflow, its architecture informed by Formula One thinking and its performance engineered at the threshold of possibility. Every surface, opening and component serves a purpose, yet the result possesses a beauty that transcends pure function.

The collaboration brought together Aston Martin, Red Bull Advanced Technologies, AF Racing and some of the world’s most accomplished technology partners. Rather than simply creating another hypercar, the project sought to reconsider what a road-legal performance machine could be when convention, excess and compromise were stripped away.

The result is something otherworldly: part automobile, part aerodynamic sculpture and part modern myth. Seven decades after Vantage first established Aston Martin’s evocative family of ‘V’ cars, the Valkyrie carries that legacy into its most extreme and compelling form—an object of power, precision and rare beauty, seemingly chosen by the gods themselves.
